What the specs mean in plain words
PTC ceramic. The ceramic plates let less electricity through as they get hotter, so they warm up in seconds and then stop getting hotter on their own. There's no glowing red coil. More on how it works.
400W and 800W. Watts tell you how much power the heater uses at full output. Many space heaters use 1,500W or more. RapidHeat uses less because it's built to warm one small room, not a whole house.
About 45 dB. That's about as loud as a quiet library or soft rain. Most people are fine sleeping or working with it on.
Thermostat. Once the room reaches your set temperature, the heater switches the plates off and on to keep it there. So most of the time it uses less than its full wattage.
Low vs High mode
| Mode | Power | Cost per hour* | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 400W | 0.10 | Keeping a warm room warm, overnight |
| High | 800W | 0.20 | Warming a cold room quickly |
*At full power with electricity at 0.25 per kWh, in your own currency. The thermostat usually brings real costs lower. Try your own price in the energy cost calculator.
Room size: how many do you need?
How many heaters for your room?
A rough guide for topping up a home that has some heating. Cold, high-ceilinged or poorly insulated rooms may need more.
| Room size | Typical room | RapidHeat units |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 250 sq ft (≈23 m²) | Bedroom, office, small living room | 1 |
| Up to 500 sq ft (≈46 m²) | Living room, large bedroom | 2 |
| Up to 750 sq ft (≈70 m²) | Open-plan or draughty room | 3 |
| Larger spaces | Alongside your main heating | 4 |
Safety features
- Overheat protection: switches off if the inside gets too hot.
- Automatic shut-off and timer: so it doesn't run longer than needed.
- Self-limiting ceramic: no exposed red-hot wires.
Safe use, as with any heater: plug straight into a wall outlet (no extension leads), keep it clear of curtains, bedding and furniture, keep it away from water, and don't leave it on when you're out. Read our space heater safety guide.
How the specs compare

| Oil-filled radiator | 1,500W+ | 20–30 min | Silent | Slow and heavy |
| Fan heater (coil) | 2,000W | Fast | Often louder | Hot exposed coils |

Common questions
How many watts is RapidHeat?
RapidHeat has two modes: Low at 400W and High at 800W. That's about half or a quarter of a typical 1,500W–2,000W space heater.
What size room can it heat?
One RapidHeat suits a room up to about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²), such as a bedroom, home office or nursery. For bigger rooms, use two or more units in different outlets.
How loud is RapidHeat?
About 45 dB, roughly the level of a quiet library or soft rainfall, and quieter than normal conversation.
Can I use it on an extension lead or power strip?
No. Like any heater, plug it straight into a wall outlet. Extension leads and power strips can overheat.
Does it work with my outlets?
RapidHeat plugs into a standard wall outlet. The correct plug for your region is shown at checkout; if you're unsure, contact us before ordering.
Does it have a thermostat and timer?
Yes. Set your temperature on the display or remote, and use the timer to switch it off automatically.
Is it safe to leave on?
It has overheat protection and automatic shut-off. Still, never leave any heater running unattended or while you're away from home, and keep it clear of curtains and bedding.
Can I use it in a bathroom?
Only in dry areas well away from water. It isn't designed for wet zones, so never use it near a bath, shower or sink.
