How RapidHeat works

Quick answer

RapidHeat plugs into a wall outlet and uses PTC ceramic plates that heat within seconds. A quiet fan spreads the warm air, and a digital thermostat holds your chosen temperature on Low (400W) or High (800W), so a small room warms in minutes.

From plug to warm room in 3 steps

  1. 1. Plug in

Into any wall outlet. No installation or tools.

  2. 2. Set your temperature

On the display or remote, and pick Low or High.

  3. 3. Feel the warmth

Ceramic plates heat in seconds; the fan spreads it.

Inside RapidHeat: ceramic heating plates, fan and filter

1. PTC ceramic plates: fast heat that limits itself

At the heart of RapidHeat is a ceramic heating element known as PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient). In plain words: as the ceramic gets hotter, it lets less electricity through. That means it reaches working temperature within seconds, then naturally stops getting hotter.

This is why ceramic heaters don't glow red like old bar or coil heaters. There's no exposed red-hot wire, and the surface stays at a controlled temperature. It's one of the main reasons ceramic is a popular choice for bedrooms and home offices.

2. A quiet fan spreads the heat

Hot ceramic on its own would only warm the air right next to it. A low-noise fan pushes room air across the plates and back out, so warm air circulates around the room. This is called convection, and it's how a small 400W–800W heater can make a whole bedroom feel warmer within minutes. The fan runs at about 45 dB, quieter than normal conversation.

3. A digital thermostat holds your temperature

Set your temperature on the display or with the remote. While the room is colder than that, RapidHeat heats at your chosen power. Once it reaches the target, the thermostat switches the element off and on to hold it steady. That cycling is why real running costs are usually lower than the full-power figures below.

The timer adds another layer: set it to switch off after you've fallen asleep or when you leave the office, so it never runs longer than needed.

How many heaters for your room?

A rough guide for topping up a home that has some heating. Cold, high-ceilinged or poorly insulated rooms may need more.

Room sizeTypical roomRapidHeat units
Up to 250 sq ft (≈23 m²)Bedroom, office, small living room1
Up to 500 sq ft (≈46 m²)Living room, large bedroom2
Up to 750 sq ft (≈70 m²)Open-plan or draughty room3
Larger spacesAlongside your main heating4

Built-in safety features

  • Overheat protection switches the heater off if it gets too hot inside.
  • Automatic safety shut-off adds a second layer of protection.
  • Self-limiting PTC ceramic with no exposed glowing element.
  • Timer so it switches off on its own.

As with any electric heater: keep about 1 m (3 ft) clear in front, keep it away from curtains, bedding and water, never cover it, and plug it straight into a wall outlet. Read our space heater safety guide for more.

Why heating one room saves money

Most of the savings come from zone heating: warming only the room you're using and turning the main heating down. A typical floor space heater draws 1,500W or more; RapidHeat runs at 400W or 800W. How much you save depends on your home, your energy prices and how you use it, so we don't promise a fixed percentage.

Quick troubleshooting

  • Won't switch on: check the outlet with another device and push the plug fully in.
  • Switches off by itself: it may have reached your set temperature or the timer ran out.
  • Keeps cutting out while the room is cold: airflow may be blocked; move it to a clear outlet.

Common questions

What is a PTC ceramic heater?

PTC stands for Positive Temperature Coefficient. The ceramic plates' electrical resistance rises as they warm up, which naturally limits how hot they get. A fan blows air across them to warm the room.

How fast does RapidHeat heat a room?

The ceramic plates heat within seconds, and a typical bedroom or office feels noticeably warmer within about 5 minutes.

Does the heater glow red or get dangerously hot?

No. Unlike bar or coil heaters, ceramic plates don't glow, and the PTC design self-limits their temperature. It still gets warm, so keep it clear of fabrics.

Does the thermostat save electricity?

Yes. Once the room reaches your set temperature, the heater cycles the element off and on to hold it, so it uses less than its full 400W or 800W most of the time.

Can RapidHeat heat a whole house?

No. It's designed for one room up to about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²). Savings come from heating only the room you're in.

Is it noisy?

The fan runs at about 45 dB, quieter than normal conversation, so it suits bedrooms and offices.

Do I need an extension lead?

No. It plugs straight into a wall outlet. Don't use extension leads or power strips with any heater.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes. Orders from the official store include a 30-day money-back guarantee.
