RapidHeat

For renters

Warm rental, with no installation

Quick answer

You can't install new heating in a rental, but you can plug in RapidHeat.

Built for renters

  • No drilling, wiring or permission needed
  • Take it with you when you move
  • Heat only your room in a shared home
Warm rental, with no installation

Why renters choose plug-in heating

In a rental you usually can't install new radiators, wall heaters or a heat pump. Even when the landlord's heating is weak or expensive to run, you're stuck with it. A plug-in heater gives you control over your own comfort with no drilling, wiring or permission needed.

Keep your own heating costs in check

If you pay your own electricity, heating only your room is often cheaper than running the whole flat's heating. In shared homes it means you can be warm without arguing about the thermostat. Use our energy cost calculator with your price per kWh to see the hourly cost.

Renter-friendly checklist

  • Plugs straight into an existing wall outlet
  • No marks, holes or fixings
  • Light enough to pack and take when you move
  • Thermostat and timer to avoid wasting power
  • 30-day money-back guarantee if it isn't right

Check your lease

Most leases allow portable electric heaters, but some ban specific types. If yours mentions heaters, check the wording or ask your landlord. Never use one with damaged outlets or wiring and report any electrical faults to your landlord.

Why RapidHeat fits

  • Plugs straight into a wall outlet, so there's nothing to install
  • Ceramic heating with 400W and 800W modes
  • Digital thermostat, remote control and timer
  • Quiet at around 45 dB
  • Overheat protection and automatic shut-off
  • Suits rooms up to about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²)

What it costs to run

Who RapidHeat is not for

We'd rather you buy the right heater than return the wrong one. RapidHeat isn't the best choice for:

  • Heating a whole house or open-plan floor on its own
  • Large rooms over about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²) with just one unit (use two or more)
  • Bathrooms or anywhere it could get splashed with water
  • People who want silent, fan-free heat (try an oil-filled radiator)

Common questions

Do I need landlord permission to use RapidHeat?

Usually not, as it's a portable plug-in appliance. Check your lease in case it mentions heaters.

How much does RapidHeat cost to run?

At full power RapidHeat uses 0.4 kWh per hour on Low (400W) or 0.8 kWh per hour on High (800W). Multiply that by your electricity price per kWh. At 0.25 per kWh that's 0.10 per hour on Low and 0.20 per hour on High. The thermostat cycles it off once the room is warm, so real use is often lower.

What size room will one RapidHeat heat?

One unit suits rooms up to about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²), such as a bedroom, home office or small living area. For bigger or draughty rooms, use two or more units in different parts of the room.

Do I need an extension lead?

No, and you shouldn't use one. RapidHeat plugs straight into a wall outlet. Extension leads and power strips can overheat with any heater.

Is RapidHeat safe?

It has overheat protection, automatic shut-off and a thermostat. As with any heater, plug it directly into a wall outlet, keep about 1 m (3 ft) clear around it, never cover it and keep it away from water.
