Energy-efficient heating

An energy-efficient heater that heats only where you are

Quick answer

Every electric heater turns electricity into heat. What makes one efficient in practice is using less power and only heating the space you need.

Where the real savings come from

The biggest saving is zone heating: heating the room you're in instead of the whole house. Turn your main heating down and use a compact heater for the room you're actually using.

Features that cut waste

  • Low wattage modes (RapidHeat: 400W / 800W)
  • A thermostat that cycles off once the room is warm
  • A timer so it never runs all night by accident

The truth about 'efficient' heaters

Every electric heater turns almost all of the electricity it uses into heat. So no plug-in heater is magically more efficient than another at that basic job, and you should be wary of anyone claiming huge percentage savings.

What you can control is how much power you use and where the heat goes. A lower-wattage heater with a thermostat, used in the room you're actually in, uses far less energy over a winter than heating every room of the house.

How zone heating saves money

Zone heating means heating only the space you use. Turn your central heating down a few degrees, close the door of the room you're in, and use a compact heater there. You keep comfortable where it matters while the rest of the house uses less energy.

How much you save depends on your home, your heating system and your energy prices, so we don't promise a fixed figure. Use our energy cost calculator to see what RapidHeat costs to run at your own price per kWh.

Five habits that cut heating costs

  • Warm up on High, then switch to Low once comfortable
  • Set the thermostat to a steady, comfortable temperature
  • Use the timer instead of leaving it on
  • Close doors and curtains to keep warmth in
  • Block draughts under doors and around windows

Why RapidHeat fits

  • Plugs straight into a wall outlet, so there's nothing to install
  • Ceramic heating with 400W and 800W modes
  • Digital thermostat, remote control and timer
  • Quiet at around 45 dB
  • Overheat protection and automatic shut-off
  • Suits rooms up to about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²)

What it costs to run

Maximum cost at full power, for common electricity prices per kWh in your own currency. With the thermostat cycling off once the room is warm, real costs are often lower. Try the energy cost calculator with your exact price.

Who RapidHeat is not for

We'd rather you buy the right heater than return the wrong one. RapidHeat isn't the best choice for:

  • Heating a whole house or open-plan floor on its own
  • Large rooms over about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²) with just one unit (use two or more)
  • Bathrooms or anywhere it could get splashed with water
  • People who want silent, fan-free heat (try an oil-filled radiator)

Common questions

How much does RapidHeat cost to run?

At full power RapidHeat uses 0.4 kWh per hour on Low (400W) or 0.8 kWh per hour on High (800W). Multiply that by your electricity price per kWh. At 0.25 per kWh that's 0.10 per hour on Low and 0.20 per hour on High. The thermostat cycles it off once the room is warm, so real use is often lower.

Is 400W or 800W better for saving energy?

400W uses half the electricity per hour. Use 800W to warm the room quickly, then switch to 400W or let the thermostat take over.

What size room will one RapidHeat heat?

One unit suits rooms up to about 250 sq ft (≈23 m²), such as a bedroom, home office or small living area. For bigger or draughty rooms, use two or more units in different parts of the room.

Will RapidHeat lower my energy bill?

It can if you use it to heat one room while turning your main heating down. If you run it on top of full central heating, it will add to your bill. Results depend on your home and prices.
